On July 26, 2023, two males were discovered dead near Rexford in a tragic event. Around 3:15 p.m., police responded to an emergency call reporting a shooting. According to Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short, the incident began with a heated verbal dispute between the two men at the boat ramp.

Eric Newman, 40, of Bend, Oregon, and Christopher Foster, 51, of Kalispell, Montana, were the men involved. Foster fatally shot Newman while he was attempting to back down the boat ramp in his vehicle.

Foster returned to the parking lot after the fatal shooting and was subsequently discovered in his vehicle, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
