Condoleezza Rice is no longer the head coach of an NFL team, but she is now an NFL owner. In a way.

“A highly renowned public servant, an outstanding scholar, and corporate leader, Secretary Rice is well recognized as a passionate and informed football fan who has strived to strengthen and improve the sport,” said new Broncos owner Rob Walton in a statement.

Years after attracting interest for the Browns’ coaching job despite having no coaching experience, the 67-year-old has joined the Broncos’ ownership group, the team revealed Monday.

“She is a football coach’s daughter who sat on the initial College Football Playoff Committee.”

She relocated to Denver with her family when she was 12 years old and attended to high school there.

This summer, Walton, heir to the Walmart company, paid a record $4.65 billion by the Broncos from the estate of the late Pat Bowlen.

His Walton-Penner family also includes his daughter, Carrie Walton Penner; son-in-law, Greg Penner; and entrepreneur Mellody Hobson, who is presently the chairwoman of Starbucks Corporation.
