Following on from a glimpse at their new ‘dos last week, we now have our first proper look at David Tennant and Michael Sheen in character as the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale for Amazon’s upcoming apocalyptic TV series, Good Omens.

Neil Gaiman, co-author of the original novel alongside much-missed fantasy giant Terry Pratchett, shared the image on his Twitter account. He also specified that the photo was taken during a filming session at St. James’ Park in London, which will play host to the show’s opening scenes and take place 11 years before the main narrative.

Fans of the cult favourite novel should be pleased with how Tennant and Sheen look here as the unlikely demon/angel double act. Sheen completely nails the part of the slightly pompous, old-fashioned Aziraphale, while Tennant could have walked right off the page as Crowley, with his long red locks and punk-rocker fashion sense.

Described as equal parts humor and horror, fantasy and drama, Good Omens “takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan — except that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon, are not looking forward to the coming war, and someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.”

Though he initially resisted adapting the novel without his original writing partner, Gaiman (American Gods, Doctor Who, Coraline) later changed his mind after discovering a letter Pratchett had written him before his death urging him to complete the project. As per Pratchett’s wishes, Gaiman is now the showrunner on Good Omens, while Sherlock‘s Douglas McKinnnon is set to direct the six-part series. Look for it to land on Amazon Prime in 2019.
