As fans know, Dwyane Wade’s now six year old son Xavier was conceived during a short break he and Gabrielle Union took from their relationship and now, the man revealed it was a really difficult thing for him when he had to tell her. During his new documentary, D. Wade: Life Unexpected, he opens up about it – here’s what he had to say!

‘I had a child with somebody else and I had to tell her. Hardest thing I have ever had to do is just man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I have had a child with somebody else…I could not sleep. I was not eating. When you hold something in that you know’s going to come out and you have this information and know it’s gonna f**k someone’s life up, that you care about, that you love, if it does not hurt you, then you are not human. [We] went through something that you never want to go through and we still came out of it,’ he shared.

Dwyane welcomed the 6 year old boy in 2013, with Aja Metoyerin, who is now known for staring on Basketball Wives.

Aside from Xavier, Wade is also the father of 18 year old Zaire and Zaya, both with another of his exes – Siohvaughn Funches.

Dwyane went on to note how not too long after telling her about the new baby, he went on to pop the big question, adding: ‘She wasn’t just marrying me, she was marrying all this baggage.’

Despite all that, the two have genuinely been very happy and in love ever since.

Furthermore, in 2018, they welcomed their daughter Kaavia who was born via surrogacy after several rounds of IVF.

In an essay she posted back in 2017, Gabrielle opened up about her fertility struggles, revealing that ‘I have had 8 or 9 miscarriages. For 3 years, my body’s been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I have either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of one, or coming out of an IVF cycle.’
