Eric H. Holder Jr. was born on January 21, 1951, in New York City, to parents Eric Himpton Holder Sr. and Miriam Holder. He has a younger sister named Vivian Holder, who is a nurse.

During his tenure as Attorney General under President Obama, Holder oversaw a number of high-profile cases, including the prosecution of several individuals involved in terrorism-related activities and the civil rights investigation into the Ferguson, Missouri police department following the shooting of Michael Brown.
