Jake Williams is a social media star who gained fame through his You Tube channel Bright Sun Films where he uploads short documentary video series like Abandoned, Cancelled, Bankrupt and Explore. In these series, he explores locations, themes park, businesses, television series etc., that have been abandoned, closed down, gone bankrupt or cancelled. The channel, which was originally a gaming channel, has gained over 1.12 million subscribers since its launch. Jake Williams launched his You Tube channel, Bright Sun Gaming, in July 2012 and primarily posted his gaming content. Things changed immensely after he uploaded a video titled Something Neat #1 River Country in February 2013. The video, revolving around the abandoned River County water park at Disney World in Florida, gained much attention and received more appreciation than his previous gaming videos. Another video about the River Country was uploaded and soon the entire content focus of the channel changed completely.

In August 2014, the channel launched a brand-new series Abandoned and uploaded its first episode Abandoned - Disneys Discovery Island (ORIGINAL). The episode became hugely popular and gave way to more episodes wherein Jake explored various places and structures that were abandoned and what their current state was. Some of the most popular episodes in the series include Abandoned - Nickelodeon Studios, Abandoned – McBarge and Abandoned - World Discoverer with over 6 million, 5.3 million and 3.4 million views, respectively.

In 2016, the channel went through another change wherein all the gaming content was removed and the channel was given a new name – Bright Sun Films. The channel started more new series including Cancelled, Bankrupt and Explore. While the first one focused on television series, video games and amusement park that were cancelled, the second series revolved around corporate bankruptcies (airline companies, cruise lines and banks). In the third series accompanied by his crew, he filmed and shared his experiences of an abandoned place.

The channel has over 1.12 million subscribers. At the 11th Shorty Awards, Bright Sun Films was nominated in the category of best Youtube Ensemble.

In July 2016, he launched the official secondary You Tube channel of Bright Sun Films for the clips and videos that were not uploaded on the main account. The channel is named Jake Williams and has amassed over 24.5K subscribers.

In2020, his first feature length documentary Closed for Storm premiered at the New Orleans Film Festival. The documentary was about the Louisiana amusement park Six Flags New Orleans which was abandoned after Hurricane Katrina flooded it in 2005. In 2021, it received a wider release.

He has also produced and appeared in series created by another You Tuber named Dan Bell. These include Another Dirty Room, Dead Mall and Film It. Additionally, he has also appeared as himself in Brennen Evangelista’s directed documentary series Uncharted Travel.

Jake Williams was born on 21 April 1998 as the only child of Doris and Ward Williams. He is from Welland, Ontario, Canada and later moved to Mississauga Ontario in 2016. He currently resides in Hamilton, Ontario.

For his education, he went to Centennial Secondary School. In 2010, at the age of 12, he began making short videos together with his friend.
