Two persons with ties to the Daleville area passed away suddenly, causing distress in the neighborhood.

According to a statement on the Daleville-Salem Township Fire Protection Territory’s Facebook page, firefighter/paramedic Kurt Mathews passed away in his sleep on Thursday while working his shift at Delaware County Emergency Medical Services, where he had been employed for the previous 17 years.

Kurt began his 34-year career as a firefighter in Daleville Salem Township in 1989, according to the article.

This week, Jake Stonebraker, 31, also passed away unexpectedly. A daughter of Stonebraker attends Daleville Elementary School.

Stonebraker was described as a pleasant, approachable, and courteous individual in Facebook posts.

On Facebook, praise for Mathews was widespread on Friday.
