Over the past years, the singer has been having issues with her health. She had various health concerns, including pneumonia on multiple occasions, and a broken arm after a fall at home. She also had a stroke at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. Having said that, she is said to have passed away in her sleep at her home in Hurricane Mills on October 4, 2022.

She was a widow as of her time of death. She was married for more than four decades to her ex-husband  Oliver Lynn. They were married from 1948 to 1996 when her husband passed away. 

She is the mother of six children whom she welcomed with her ex-husband. She is the mother of two sons and four daughters who have been identified as Patsy Lynn, Jack Benny Lynn, Betty Sue Lynn, Ernest Ray Lynn, Cissy Lynn, and Peggy Lynn.
