Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Patrick Jeffery Leroy in Asheville

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Asheville on September 3, 2023, resulting in the loss of a 35-year-old bicyclist, Patrick Jeffery Leroy. According to a news release from the Asheville Police Department dated September 4, this unfortunate incident involved a hit-and-run collision with a sedan along Hendersonville Road.

The Asheville Police Department’s patrol officers swiftly responded to the scene around 1:12 p.m. on September 3, near the 2200 block of Hendersonville Road in South Asheville. Initial findings from the preliminary investigation suggest that Patrick Jeffery Leroy was traveling southbound in the turn lane when a blue sedan, traveling northbound on Hendersonville Road, attempted to overtake another vehicle by using the turn lane. Tragically, this maneuver led to a devastating head-on collision.

The driver of the sedan fled the scene before law enforcement officers arrived. Patrick Jeffery Leroy was transported to Mission Hospital by Buncombe County EMS, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. The next of kin has been duly notified of this tragic loss.

Subsequently, both the vehicle and the driver were located later that evening. The Asheville Police Department is actively continuing its investigation and will collaborate with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office to determine potential charges, as stated in the news release.
