The Met Gala came into existence in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a fundraiser for the newly founded Costume Institute to mark the opening of its annual exhibit and once every single year the world witnesses a lot of celebrities walk down the magnificent red carpet to display their beautiful and extraordinary outfits at the Met Gala.

The 2023 Met Gala will take place once again on the first Monday in May, which happens to be 1 May this year, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The 2023 theme for the Met Gala, according to the organizers, Vogue, the theme will be ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’ to honor Karl Lagerfeld, who was a regular attendee at The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute and will be a tribute to the legendary German designer, who died in 2019 at 85

According to Vogue fashion guidelines, attendees are expected to take the dress code in one of three directions: Vintage Lagerfeld, modern Fendi, and Chanel or a look inspired by the designer’s own signature style.

What are the Met Gala table decorations like?

Every year the table Decorations at the Met Gala differ year after year, and event planner Raul Ávila is given the task to transform the Metropolitan Museum of Art into an otherworldly spectacle for the annual Met Gala.

An example is the 2019’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” where he created a 25-foot tall, flamboyant flamingo centerpiece comprised of 30,000 flowers, and in 2018, he erected a rose recreation of a papal crown for “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” And those are just examples of floral formations.

In 2007, for “Poiret: King of Fashion,” he filled a gilded birdcage with live peacocks which caused minor chaos as everyone ensued when one of the birds escape everyone at the museum was chased after her to get her back into the cage.

So hopefully, 2023 will be a different theme with different table decorations and different sitting mates and partners.
