Tom Browning, a former Reds legend who played on the team that won the World Series in 1990 and was the only pitcher to ever pitch a perfect game for the team, passed away on Monday.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old Browning was discovered unresponsive and not breathing at his Union, Kentucky, residence.

He was declared dead at the scene at 1:13 p.m. ET after unsuccessful resuscitation attempts. His death was not thought to have been the result of any wrongdoing.

The left-hander finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting to Cardinals outfielder Vince Coleman in 1985 despite having a 20-9 record and a 3.55 ERA in 38 starts and 261 1/3 innings pitched.

On September 16, 1988, when he pitched a perfect game to defeat the Dodgers 1-0, Browning achieved the pinnacle of his career. He four times had the most starts in the NL.
